My Newspaper will Change a LIFE.
Hi, sorry it has taken us such a long time to post here. With Faustine having been in Kenya now since last November and possibly until the end of this year, it became untenable to continue collecting cans actively in the United States for this project.
And the project had kind of stalled until an idea came into mind on how to continue raising funds for this project. We realised that in Kenya people read newspapers a LOT and most of them keep the papers after they read them either to light their jikos, wash their windows or for posterity and other reasons. It occurred to us that these papers that they have are what are used to make tissue paper and hence the idea of recycling old newspapers was born. So far we have been to 7 churches asking congregations to help us by donating some of their newspapers to our cause, and it's not just paper we are taking,we are also taking the used tissue paper rolls(what remains after you use tissue)and the one for foil paper and used cartons and any other kind of paper one is willing to give. This campaign to raise funds will be ongoing for the better part of this year before we embark on a project because our target is 1 million people giving us 20 newspapers each which would make 2 million kilogrammes in used newspapers! We want to build the first mortuary in Mt Elgon and also equip the hospitals with basic diagnostic equipment. The jigger menace and empowerment of widows through social economic activities are two other campaigns that are firmly on our radar. We also plan to approach corporates and just about everybody else regardless of what field they are in to donate to this cause.Kindly help by telling a friend, and mobilizing people you know to support us by giving their used papers to this cause.please call Faustine on 0702-807111 if you need any further info on this.we have put up a picture showing how many newspapers we have collected in just the last 6 weeks. We will also update this blog regularly so you can check our progress.Do remember that even just one of your old newspapers....can and will help change a life!
